Executive brief

Prescribing with precision:
A pharmacogenomics primer

These days, the idea of precision medicine seems less like something out of The Jetsons and more like a realistic element of patient care. But just because advances in fields like pharmacogenomics have started to provide more precise and personal insights into individual patients’ health doesn’t mean that it’s all smooth sailing.

Indeed, when it comes to the marriage of pharmacology and genomics, many factors impact how medications work (or don’t) for each person. What’s more, this relatively “new” field (circa 2005) doesn’t yet have a universal, standardized language – meaning that results from one organization don’t easily translate to others.

This executive brief will delve into the promise of pharmacogenomics and the barriers to widespread use.
