Traveling at the speed of light: Health IT's role in administering the COVID-19 vaccine

Back in April, the federal government launched Operation Warp Speed (OWS) – a collaboration between federal agencies and private companies – to coordinate and accelerate the development of a COVID-19 vaccine. While the original goal was to deliver over 300 million doses by the start of 2021, the timeline has since been shortened to November.

The rapid development of a safe and effective vaccine has brought a number of challenges into sharp focus in recent months. From testing and approvals, to patient prioritization and distribution, the process is multi-faceted and highly complex. Inoculating hundreds of millions of Americans is a monumental task, but health IT is uniquely positioned to help. Read the white paper to learn more about the race to develop the vaccine and how HIT can play an essential role in:

  • Documenting and reporting vaccine administration
  • Resource allocation and multi-dose coordination
  • Interoperability and the creation of data-sharing applications
