Increased data sharing between health systems is urgently needed. That’s the message that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) sent in March when it passed its two Final Rules on interoperability, complete with a tight timeline for implementation.

Fast forward five months, and the COVID-19 pandemic has made the importance of increasing data sharing even clearer. At the same time, the widespread struggles to contain and contend with the virus are preventing many organizations from making critical upgrades.
